Zahara, small floral appliqués in traditional Yemenite jewelry made from silver granules. In these studs, I used two patterns — Masbu’a, a seven-part flower, and Matsu’a, a diamond shape made from nine granules.
These appliqués are found in almost every piece of Yemenite jewelry. They served as decoration but also as a structural component — strengthening the piece, holding twisted silver wires in place, and securing the borders of necklaces. I make them using the traditional granulation technique (Zir'a), shaping and placing each granule by hand before soldering them together.
I aim to preserve these elements in a new way, giving attention even to the smallest appliqués in Yemenite jewelry so they can carry their own story.
