When I made this necklace, I chose two elements that have always stood at the heart of Yemenite jewelry and symbolize the growth of nature: coral and tut beads.
Tut beads are small silver beads created through the art of granulation. Named after the tut tree in Yemen, they represent its berries, which were believed to bring prosperity for a blossoming life.
Between each tut I placed a coral bead, known in Yemen as marjan. Families would often collect coral bead by bead, beginning at a girl’s birth and continuing until her wedding. By then, a full strand carried years of memory and blessing, treasured for its power to protect both body and spirit.
